What does it mean to be a refugee in Austin? How would it feel to leave your homeland and never turn back? What kind of home would you create for you and your family in Austin? Join the Austin History Center on Tuesday, February 21 at 6:30 pm for the opening reception of their new exhibit Finding Refuge in Austin, 1848 to 1980. This historical exhibit explores the experiences of displacement, forced migration, and resettlement among various communities in Austin from 1848 to 1980. By highlighting documents, photographs, and objects from our collections, it reveals the shared challenges and contributions among refugee communities in Austin and Travis County.

The exhibit opens February 21, 2017 and runs through September 17, 2017. The reception and exhibit are free and open to the public and will be catered by Chef Uyen Pham and the Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts.
