East: Sun - Rise AR Intervention

East: Sun - Rise AR Intervention

Presented by City of Austin Cultural Arts Division at Givens Recreation Center

East: Sun – Rise AR Intervention blurs notions of art in public places by virtually layering archival photographic material and the use of Augmented Reality (AR) technology to geo-locate photographs in public places over East Austin. The images’ main protagonists, BIPOC – Black, Indigenous, and People of Color, are documented celebrating everyday life–playing sports, having a parade, demonstrating, standing outside of a school or just having a walk in the neighborhood. The physical markers–a street corner, a parade, a public swimming pool, a baseball or a football field, or an iconic moon tower light, reconcile within the use of public spaces while trace in a virtual and a physical tour-like experiences that relate to history, origin, and labor.

East: Sun – Rise ARI is a FY 21-22 Community Initiatives project awarded by City of Austin Cultural Arts Funding Program and the Economic Development Department and sponsored by The Museum of Human Achievement, a 503c non-profit org based in Austin, Texas and supported by Austin Mutual Aid Micro-grant.
