On November 12, 1974, the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board voted to recommend to City Council that the name of Oak Springs Park be changed to Dr. Everett H. Givens Park. The City Council adopted the recommendation to rename the park in the memory of Dr. Givens, a well known East Austin dentist and civic leader.
