Black History Month Kids' Day

Presented by Austin Friends of Folk Art at Carver Museum and Cultural Center

Carver Museum February 22nd 11:00am – 1:00pm

1165 Angelina Street, Austin, TX, 78702

Austin Friends of Folk Art (AFFA) has partnered with Brian “Bydeeman” Joseph to celebrate Black History Month.

The 2020 Black History Month theme is African Americans and the Vote. Joseph created an original work to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the 15th Amendment and the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment giving Blacks and women the right to vote. AFFA commissioned this work – the Bydee people holding V-O-T-E set on a brightly colored landscape as the beaming sun exudes the hope.  This work illustrates that the power of the vote is literally in our hands. Joseph remarked, “I believe that to vote is a RIGHT, and that one VOTE can impact the lives of many.”

AFFA sponsored the Bydee children’s art demonstration scheduled February 22 at the Carver Museum, Cultural and Genealogy Center. During the Carver’s Black History Month Kids’ Day, Brian Joseph will demonstrate his art process, co-create an original work with the children and provide a coloring activity. This children’s program is scheduled February 22 program from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Carver Museum. Joseph’s newly created V-O-T-E original work will be on display. Prints are available https://www.bydee.com/collections/all.
