The Austin History Center invites you to an afternoon book discussion with Elizabeth Clare, author of the new book The Austin Dam Disaster of 1900. In the 1890’s, Austin gambled its fortunes on the Austin Dam in an attempt to provide hydroelectric power to the city and tame the unpredictable Colorado River. Clare will talk about the development and controversies surrounding the dam as well as its demise. Light refreshments will be served and a book signing will follow the event, which is free and open to the public.
