Stories of War Veterans Dance Performances by EXIT12

Art Spark Texas (formerly VSA Texas) brings award-winning, contemporary dance company EXIT12 to Austin’s Dougherty Art Center Oct. 18 and 19 (8 pm) for a performance of “Stories of War” told through monologues, poetry and dance.

The battlefield transforms into a stage as the EXIT12 veterans recount incredible moments of sacrifice, courage, triumph, and loss. These stories are then realized in choreography. The evening is an intimate experience where veterans will share experiences of war, service, and coming home to embark on a positive search for a hopeful future.

Tickets for the Dance performance are $15 / $10 for veterans, students and seniors.

  • Award-winning documentary film EXIT 12, directed by Mohammad Gorjestani, (SXSW 2019 Grand Jury Award) which follows EXIT12 founder, U.S. Marine and dancer Roman Baca, who returns from the Iraq War as a broken veteran ravaged by depression, anxiety and anger, who turns to dance as a way to cope.
