Reality in Long Shots: A Hou Hsiao-hsien Retrospective

From September 8th through 29th, the Austin Asian American Film Festival and Austin Film Society present a series of screenings at the AFS Cinema showcasing the Taiwanese master described as “the world’s greatest narrative filmmaker.”

The Austin Asian American Film Festival and Austin Film Society present “Reality in Long Shots,” a retrospective of works by the pioneering Taiwanese writer-director Hou Hsiao-Hsien, at AFS Cinema from September 8-29, 2018. This retrospective is the largest of Director Hou’s works that Austin has seen since 2000, and is made possible by the Ministry of Culture – Taiwan’s Spotlight Taiwan grant, with assistance from the Taiwan Academy of Houston.

There will be a closing night reception before A CITY OF SADNESS on September 29th.

Special guest Peggy Chiao, a producer, critic, and current professor of Creative Filmmaking at the Taipei National University of the Arts, will be in attendance on September 29th to introduce A CITY OF SADNESS and participate in a moderated discussion after the film.
