Media Chica Workshop - Saturday, April 9, 10:00 a.m. to 1 p.m. CST

Latinitas is SO excited to bring to you “Media Chica: Workshops,” a series of seminars, both in person and virtual, led by innovative Latinas and Women of Color in the media field!
This event will be hosted at Latinitas headquarters 1023 Springdale Road, Bldg. 9E Austin, TX 78721.
Don’t miss the chance to be inspired to write authentically and compellingly by embracing the power behind your own story and how it informs your writing. Led by award-winning journalist, Nancy Flores, editor and publisher of Austin Vida, a bicultural news and culture site, you’ll learn the best way to bring out the heart of your personal story and apply these techniques to features and creative writing.
You’ll walk away with an outline for a story and have the chance to possibly be published in both Latinitas Magazine and Austin Vida.
Mentors will help guide participants every step of the way. All you need is enthusiasm and to bring an object that is meaningful to you. Don’t overthink it. It can be anything from a stuffed animal to a piece of jewelry or even a photo.
As a bonus, Nancy will offer participants a free copy of Austin Vida’s Cultura Guide.

In our third talk of the series, we will be covering The Power of Storytelling. We are honored to have Storyteller & Journalist, Nancy Flores as our keynote speaker.
Nancy Flores, an award-winning journalist, leads the online bicultural publication Austin Vida as its editor and publisher. She’s the founder of Cultura Media, and was recently named by digital news outlet Austonia as one of “Austin’s top Latina entrepreneurs to watch.”
She’s the daughter of Mexican immigrants and has specialized in writing about underrepresented Central Texas communities, most recently reporting for the Austin American-Statesman and Austin360. Her contributions to Austin’s Latino community recently earned her the Award of Excellence in Media Arts from the city’s Mexican American Cultural Center. In 2019, Remezcla named her among the nation’s “Latino Columnists You Should Be Reading.”

En nuestra tercera platica de la serie cubriremos narrando hisotorias. Tendremos el honor de presentar a la Narradora y reportera Nancy Flores, como oradora especial.
