“One of the hardest things a writer has to learn is that ‘What’s going on?’ means precisely that….” Dwight Swain Techniques of the Selling Writer
Stuck? Writing in circles? Can’t finish? Done but the story world isn’t real? Come spend some time with Dwight Swain’s story question concept. If you can begin to articulate that, you can find your way to the heart of your characters and plot action. You can take apart and focus your story in a way that will jumpstart your writing again. The story question is both an exploration and an adventure.
Class time includes writing in class, group discussion, and exploration of specific writing problems from class members. Individual writing will not be critiqued. The class is based on Dwight Swain’s Techniques of a Selling Writer.
Participants who have work toward a rough draft of a novel or short story or creative non-fiction will get the most benefit, but everyone is welcome.
