Join us for a special, extended evening as ¡Escándalo! presents Sábado Picante – una noche gigante.

Amoeba Improv will open, then the cast of the B. Iden Payne Award-winning ¡Escándalo! will weave together a brand new, never-before-seen, never-to-be-seen-again passion-filled telenovela based on audience suggestions. Closing out the show, award winning Ladi Loera will delight the audience with storytelling interspersed with a montage of improvised scenes (loosely inspired by his stories) performed by the combined casts of Amoeba and ¡Escándalo!

Amoeba Improv

Amoeba is an amorphous, take-a-suggestion-and-go improv group from Austin, TX. Amoeba is a pandemic baby born out of good intentions and a love of comedy. Aimee, Alberto, Beto, Denise, Eric, and Jessica met at The Institution Theater in Austin, TX, and fell in love at first sight. We had lofty goals of producing shows and opening for our favorite troupes. When the pandemic hit, we reluctantly went virtual and that’s when our improv fairytale began. One of our first coaches was the legendary, Craig Cackowski who introduced us to the amazing Rich Talarico, who then passed us on to the great Bob Dassie, and then our fairy godmother, Jaime Moyer. Amoeba has been fortunate to learn from other amazing instructors like, Adam Cawley, Peter Fluet, and Marc Warzecha. We’ve worked with our coaches weekly over the last 2 years. Ladislao Loera

Ladi is an artist, award winning storyteller, and animal lover. He is the current Artistic/Creative Director for Testify. He has shared stories with I’m From Driftwood, Truth in Comedy, and The Moth, where he won with a story about sympathetic nausea and what it teaches us about love and connection. Ladi is also an award winning public speaker with Toastmasters International. He is a native Texan who currently resides in Austin with his partner and the cremains of two elderly cats. Pre-sale tickets are discounted via Eventbrite, which will close 2 hours before show time.
Tickets at the door will be $25
Show runs 7pm to approximately 9:30 with an intermission
Doors open: 6:50 p.m.
Until show time, complimentary parking provided on a space available basis at the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center lot.
Shows may contain adult themes, adult language, and prop weapons. The primary language will be English with some Spanish peppered throughout ¡Escándalo!’s set.
