Ensemble VIII presents “A 17th-Century Venetian Christmas” on Dec. 19 and 20 at St. Louis Catholic Church Chapel. Both concerts begin at 7:30 p.m.
During the 17th century, Venice was the epicenter of musical grandeur in all of Europe. St. Mark’s Cathedral in Venice was a pilgrimage site for composers and musicians from all over continental Europe who would journey to study the Venetian style, perfected by composers Gabrieli and Monteverdi, and assimilate this unique sound back in their home territories.
