Seeding Time

The artwork is centered around a sapling grown from an acorn harvested in the year 2000 from Austin’s 500-year-old Treaty Oak. The five rings chart the size of the sapling’s leaf canopy for the next five centuries, each ring representing 100 years of growth. A spiral of 9 indigenous boulders, a sun eclipsed by a moon, and a circling mist and blue light create a landscape of five centuries past and five centuries into the future. 2004 Art in America Year in Review.
