The Living Newspaper Project is a project-based learning model that interrogates and animates human rights issues through drama-based instruction and performance. Working with 5th-12th grade students and teachers, we create original performances about current human rights issues that correspond with each classroom’s curriculum. Moving through a three-phase process – from research to scripting to staging – the Living Newspaper Project culminates in a public performance at each partner school. Throughout this process, drama specialists train classroom teachers in the methods and pedagogy of the program, ultimately empowering teachers to facilitate the project independently.
