Film Kids uses active, student-driven film production to encourage young people’s confidence, creativity and critical thinking skills.
The adaptation to technology begins at such an early age in modern America that young people have no fear of cameras, and the spark of their imagination can also facilitate technical skills that help with future careers. This is what inspired Film Kids to plan after school programs, initially at Brentwood Elementary School and Lamar Middle School, and the reception of this idea has been positive enough to encourage in-school gifted-and-talented programs, summer camps and community outreach as well. Film Kids teaches storytelling, storyboarding, acting and the use of video cameras, and has also been able to teach video editing with the help of some facilities’ computer labs. Film Kids strives to encourage artistic confidence through hands on, collaborative, student-driven filmmaking.
