The Dougherty is excited to expand Creativity Club as an onsite after school program option. Creativity Clubs includes visual arts, theater and digital media using a process-oriented teaching approach. Van transportation is currently being offered for students enrolled at Matthews and Zilker elementary schools. A local area elementary school with 5 or more students enrolled in C-Club @ the DAC may request van transportation. Parents and guardians are welcome to enroll children and provide their own transportation to the Dougherty.
Creativity Club @ the DAC is an after school program that is held onsite at the Dougherty. Students explore arts educational programming through lessons taught in various artistic mediums and disciplines. Creativity Club’s curriculum follows a process-based learning model with lesson plans developed by our Instructors in response to monthly themes that emphasize cultural studies, art history, and creative techniques. This method allows every project to be responsive to the students’ creative interests as well as incorporate the Instructors’ own artistic expertise. Instructors are carefully chosen so that each site provides diverse cultural arts experiences for all participants in the areas of visual, performing and media arts. The goal of Creativity Club is to provide students the time and space to develop individual creative expression through group participation in structured and intentional recreational activities and arts lessons. The small groups of one teacher per 10 students allows more time for each student to participate in the artistic process. Enrollment is set on a monthly basis. Each student is guaranteed a spot in the next month’s class as long as tuition is paid by the deadline.
