Founded in 1991, Art From the Streets’ mission is to provide a safe and encouraging environment in which the positive spirit of homeless people is nurtured through artistic expression, and to provide them with a source of pride and income through the sale of their work. Twice-weekly open studio sessions are the heart of the program. Homeless and formerly homeless individuals have the opportunity to explore their creativity every Tuesday and Thursday at the Trinity Center, 304 East 7th. Works are kept through the year and then readied for display at the Annual Show and Sale, which takes place in November or December each year. Sales proceeds go to the artist. Both the open studio sessions and the annual show and sale give the participants the means to interact with others in a positive, supportive environment and a way to express themselves in a healthy, productive manner.
