: Knowbility, Inc. is a national nonprofit organization whose mission is to support the independence of children and adults with disabilities by promoting the use and improving the availability of accessible information technology. To fulfill this mission Knowbility provides technology solutions to make Internet applications and other emerging technologies accessible to people who are blind, visually impaired or have mobility impairments. Our goal is to create a barrier-free world of information technology so children, youth, and adults with disabilities can fully participate in the information marketplace. Knowbility was incorporated as a 501(c)(3) in March, 1999 shortly after conducting its first community-building event called the Accessibility Internet Rally (AIR Austin). AIR Austin proved to be an effective model for engaging the high-tech sector and the social services community in disability issues. It has since become an annual event and been replicated in several U.S. cities. Knowbility’s team of experts, originally assembled to produce AIR events, is internationally recognized for creating the worldwide standard for web accessibility implementation and training. As a result, Knowbility has become the preeminent source for guidance in meeting governmental and international accessibility standards, currently delivering a broad range of technical and consulting services to ensure that Internet and other technology products are accessible. Knowbility directly serves more than 1,000 persons each year through training and consulting. The organization has overseen the creation of more than 800 accessible web sites that meet the highest accessibility standards and provide information access to the 55 million Americans with disabilities.
