Join us as we meet and create with artist Mary Kraemer. Finding gems from the reclaimed materials from Austin Creative Reuse, we will make mini-shrines with succulents! Succulents are super flexible plants that have shallow roots and can be put in almost any container. Decorating and making your own containers, the most whimsical-minded can really go far.
Assembling a shrine is an act of love. It can also be a prayer. Because they are an expression of the spirit, shrines both move us and serve as bridges that connect us to mysteries greater than ourselves. Each plant you use becomes like a tree: a tree representing, protecting, and nurturing an idea, goal, or value embodied in the shrine. It’s a great way to empower your life and connect with your plant friends!
Mary Kraemer has a BFA from The University of Texas. She has been practicing recreational horticultural programing for 6 years with a variety of special needs populations, including the blind and deaf, children, adolescents, and assisted-living adults.
This project is supported in part by the Cultural Arts Division of the City of Austin Economic Development Department.
