With Liberty and Justice for All Film Series: Crossing Over: Stories of Immigration and Identity

Presented by The Contemporary Austin at The Contemporary Austin - Jones Center

Jim Hodges’s sculpture With Liberty and Justice for All (A Work in Progress) is a pledge, a call to action, and a platform for dialogue. Join us as we consider this work of art in the context of films about intersectional LGBTQ themes.

This documentary began as a film on transgender women seeking political asylum in the U.S. but developed into a story that exposes transphobia and celebrates the strength of human survival. Three transgender Mexican immigrants navigate different stages of asylum in Los Angeles—all striving to establish stability and support systems in a foreign city. (Directed by Isabel Castro, 2014, 45 min.)
