2nd Annual Fresh Squeezed Ounce of Opera, a Micro-Opera Showcase

2nd Annual Fresh Squeezed Ounce of Opera, a Micro-Opera Showcase

Presented by One Ounce Opera at Museum of Human Achievement

It’s back! The 2nd Annual Fresh Squeezed Ounce of Opera (FSOO) drops the first weekend of April.

The first micro-opera showcase of its kind in Austin, FSOO’s focus is on new works, 10-20 minutes in length. After a competitive international call for composer submissions, this year’s works have been chosen. You can experience the regional and world premieres of these varied, cutting-edge pieces presented in a totally chill alternative space–IN ENGLISH. Oh, and wear your jeans and sneakers, if you’d like.

Performance dates are:

Friday, April 7th at 8:00pm
Saturday, April 8th at 8:00pm
Sunday, April 9th at 2:00pm

Why a Short Opera Showcase?

Here’s a familiar scene…let’s say you walk into a new brewery. Their tap wall is expansive: dark, complex, light, refreshing. You choose a sampler to satisfy your curiosity–and get turned on to something new.

FSOO is that sampler. One Ounce’s curated program will introduce four thoughtful new short operatic works to you, our eclectic audience. Topics are varied, current, and inquisitive. We guarantee you’ll experience something fresh and unexpected. And you’ll laugh. A lot.

Plus, by joining us, you are saying, “Hey–opera’s kinda cool. I wanna make sure stuff like this keeps happening, and show these winning composers how much Austin supports new music!” Yeah!

To reserve your seat, just as if you were purchasing a ticket, simply give now to our IndieGoGo campaign http://igg.me/at/FSOO2 (PS: complimentary beverages included). The quirky Museum of Human Achievement next to Canopy (near the intersection of Springdale and Lyons) will be our performance home once again. For walk-up guests, look for signs along the fence line on Lyons to lead you in! Keep in mind seating is limited and general admission. Doors open 30 minutes prior to showtime.

This year’s winning pieces are:
Problems by Rain Nox
Remembering Landscape, music by Marvin J. Carlton and lyrics by Madeleine St.Romain
The Stranger the Better, music by Liam Wade and lyrics by Vynnie Meli
Ho! Ho! Ho!, music by Peter Michael von der Nahmer and lyrics by Kate Chadwick

OOO is a member of OperaAmerica and a sponsored project of Austin Creative Alliance. This project is partially funded by a grant from the City of Austin Cultural Arts Division.
