The theatrical adaptation of Uncle Tom’s Cabin reached three times as many people in America as the original novel, which was the second best-selling book in the nineteenth century after the Bible. Cline Curator of Theatre and Performing Arts Eric Colleary shares insights into the original manuscripts held in the Ransom Center’s collections and traces the fascinating production history of one of the single most important plays in American theatre history.
