Austin Musical Improv Love Fest (AMILF)!
Girls Girls Girls Annual Weekend of Musical Improv, Guests, and Workshops!
Austin, TX – Do you jam out in your car and belt out songs? Do you make up the words when you don’t know them? If you answered YES, then you are a MUSICAL IMPROVISER!
You are invited to the fifth annual Austin Musical Improv Love Fest (AMILF) weekend of shows, workshops, and jams hosted by Austin’s two-time B. Iden Payne Award winner: Girls Girls Girls
The weekend kicks off on Friday at 8:00PM as Austin’s hottest improv troupe, Girls Girls Girls, creates a Broadway-type musical on the spot, all inspired by a suggestion from the audience! Synesthesia (a one-woman vocal artist) and That Racket open. Stay for the 10:00PM AMILF Karaoke showdown where you can put in $5 to sing your heart by making up new lyrics to songs and competing in friendly challenges (cash bar!).
If you are inspired by what you see, come back Saturday and Sunday to learn how it’s done by taking workshops ranging from Improv Singing For Scaredy Cats and Pretend You’re in a Musical to Sondheim! Improvised Musicals, among others. Sign up for a workshop and have a great time in a casual environment for $25 each!
Keep the beat going Saturday night at the 8:00PM show as Girls Girls Girls previews their Spring show Cowgirl Cabaret! New-on-the scene troupe Songs Against Humanity and Human People will open. Stay for the 10PM show with musical improv shows by Available Cupholders and Loverboy.
Sunday may be a day of rest for some, but not for AMILF! Catch two of Austin’s best improv duos Get Up and Cascade at the Impromptu (Institution clubhouse). And, after all of the shows and workshops of the weekend, you might be inspired to try out musical improv yourself. Take the stage in our free Sunday evening Musical Rubber Room Jam where you have the chance to play alongside the improvisers in a fun-filled, casual performance. All experience levels are welcomed!
