“Form and Possibility: Finding Freedom within Constraints” with Dr. Taylor Byas

“Form and Possibility: Finding Freedom within Constraints” with Dr. Taylor Byas

Presented by Writers' League of Texas (WLT) at Online/Virtual Space

This course seeks to reframe poetic forms as useful containers into which we can throw and organize our concerns, molds we can place onto a thing to give it shape. And within those containers, there are many ways to work with their formal constraints to create surprise for your reader.

This class will discuss three popular poetry forms–the sonnet, the pantoum, and the sestina–and will delve into some tips and tricks of working through (and with) their formal constraints to create possibility and surprise.

TAKE THIS CLASS IF:

You’re curious about poetic forms.
You’re looking for ways to play again in your writing.
You’re looking to refresh your approach to form in your writing.
You’re a poet or prose writer curious how constraints can transform your writing.

The deadline to register for this class is Friday, April 5 at 5:00 PM CDT.
