A medieval ensemble of period instruments and soloists presenting music all about love, drinking, dancing, and more. Music from the 13th century; poetry rated PG-13!
While Carmina Burana may have gotten its claim to fame in 1937 by composer Carl Orff, the original version deserves just as much attention. This medieval manuscript collected and composed by 13th-century Bavarian clerical students contains unabashedly joyful and passionate songs about love, spring, drinking, philosophy, politics, and more, and it offers a fascinating glimpse into life in the late Middle Ages. With poetry and music both sensual and refined, satirical and sincere, we\’re rating this concert \”PG-13\” and highlighting our 10-piece medieval orchestra and early music soloists. Join us!
