AARC Day of Dance

Presented by Asian American Resource Center at Asian American Resource Center

The AARC is hosting a Day of Dance to bring free dance classes to the community! Classes do not require a partner and no experience is required.

Show up 10-15 minutes early for the class you would like to take. Bring your water bottle!

 

SCHEDULE

10am – 10:45am Andrea Ariel Dance Theatre

Move to the Music – Ages 50 and up – accessible for all physical abilities and ages

Creative movement with a variety of music for a fun way to develop physical well-being and creative expression through movement and dance. The class uses simple and safe, non-impact movement activities aiming to improve flexibility, balance, coordination, cardiovascular health and conditioning for the activities of daily living.

11am – 11:45am Malong Dance by La’arni Ayuma – Youth to Adult – All skill levels

Malong Dance by La’arni Ayuma – Youth to Adult – All skill levels

Join us in this cultural exploration through movement. Malong Dance originates from the Maranao tribes of Mindanao in the Philippines.

The dance shows many ways of wearing the malong – a tubular piece of cloth. Let the Malong weave its magic, and let’s dance together! .

BollyX and Zumba by Tadka Dance – Teens to Adults – All skill levels

Energize yourself with BollyX and Zumba. The fun, high energy Bollywood/Zumba cardio dance helps boost metabolism, increase focus and self-confidence.

1pm – 1:45pm Austin Japanese Minyo Dance Group

Japanese Folk Dance by Austin Japanese Minyo Dance Group – All Ages – All skill levels

Minyo means Japanese folk dance, and is originated from the different regions of Japan. Each region has its own specialty. Be it the celebration of harvest, the thankfulness of the nature, the devotion of the workmanship, Minyo dance shows off different fabrics of life and demonstrates a colorful culture of Japan.

The goal of Austin Japanese Minyo Group is to introduce the folk dances of Japan performed in Japan’s local festivals to the Austin community and its residents.

Austin Japanese Minyo Group offers FREE classes on Saturday every other week from 10 ~ 11AM at Asian American Resource Center. All Austin residents any age are welcome to join and learn Japanese folk dances together.

2pm – 2:45pm Keito Academy of ethnocultural performing arts and Pacific Island dance

Hula Dance – ages 4 and up – All skill levels

Learn about the Hawaiian Ohana Culture as taught in local schools on the islands, learning Polynesian dance from the Pacific Tahiti to Hawaii. Drums are part of this class.

3pm – 3:45pm Resurge

K-pop Dances with Resurge (all ages and all skill levels)- Have you ever wanted to learn a K-pop dance? Come join the members of Resurge and learn choreography from the group Le Sserafim!

The Asian American Resource Center’s mission is to create a space of belonging and healing for Asian American communities in Austin and beyond.
