Gold and Shadow

Gold and Shadow

Presented by Dimension Gallery at Dimension Gallery

Dimension Gallery is Austin’s only sculpture specific venue, and this event, funded by the City of Austin’s Cultural Arts Division, will be an exciting expo of some truly exquisite and thought provoking work. Austin artist Nick Schnitzer presents Gold and Shadow, an exhibition of new works that takes a look at a side of humanity often overlooked.  On second thought, perhaps it’s better to say that the artist offers viewers the chance to look at their own shadows, a term borrowed from Swiss psychologist Carl Jung which concerns the aspects of ourselves that we hide, repress, or deny, in order of becoming whole, fully integrated beings.  The gold, representing those parts of us that we are proud of and therefore willing to show, also have a place in the work. There are many mirrors and reflective surfaces in this show, along with industrial materials, some moving parts, and dark cavities to explore.  Gold and black appear somewhere in every piece, reminding the viewer that these elements co-exist at every level of being.

The event will also feature a wine tasting hosted by What’s My Wine, a new mobile app that rates and suggests the latest in wine trends.
