Revolución de los Muertos

Austin and Mazatlán Bridging Art & Social Change is an international exchange project between artists, with workshops and exhibitions of Dia de Muertos. The workshops create utilitarian and artistic images for the Dia de Muertos celebration and will be taught by Sinaloan professors in Austin and professors from Texas in Mazatlán. Exhibitions of the prints from these workshops will be open simultaneously in both cities. Works being shown are wood engravings in large format, printed with a steamroller by Mazatlecan artists, and engravings on linoleum in small format, made during the first workshop that was held in La Peña Latino Arts Organization in July of this year by teachers from the Municipal Institute for Culture, Tourism and Art of Mazatlán. Note the support of the Consulate General of Mexico in Austin for this artistic exchange. The cultural exchange will achieve the visual transmission of both associations projected in both communities in the same celebration that combines art, tradition and fiesta without borders, thus honoring our dead with life!
