Experimental music group New Factories, consisting of Houston-based artists Gabriel Martinez and Ronnie Yates, present an improvisational sound performance featuring field recordings taken from the Houston Ship Channel. Focused on the complex relationships between sound and place, the artists’ work layers field recordings with prepared guitar and sounds taken in real-time from their immediate environment. Their performance will converse with VAC artist Tania Mouraud’s use of similar recordings in her new video installation FATA MORGANA, which was filmed at an oil refinery in Pasadena, Texas.
Performance by New Factories is presented in conjunction with the exhibition Tania Mouraud: Everyday Ogres, on view September 23 – December 10.
