Rough Cut Screening

Presented by allgo at ALLGO

“a strike and an uprising (in texas)” is a new experimental documentary by Anne Lewis. The project is sponsored by the Austin Film Society and funded in part by the City of Austin. The film is still at rough cut stage so this screening is an opportunity for the filmmaker to hear your comments about the content of the film. (It’s kind of an ugly duckling at this point.)

The film is based on the telling of two events: the 1938 strike of 10,000 pecan shellers led by Emma Tenayuca in San Antonio and the 1987 Jobs with Justice march through Nacogdoches. It includes contemporary scenes in Austin: pecan gathering, a meeting of the Texas Tea Party, and the removal of the Jefferson Davis statue at UT.

Of particular interest to those interested in or involved with working people concentrating on Latino and African American communities and women.
