Autumn Song featuring The Little Matchgirl Passion

Autumn Song featuring The Little Matchgirl Passion

Presented by Conspirare at Redeemer Presbyterian Church

Conspirare kicks off the 16-17 Season with an intimate chamber concert featuring Craig Hella Johnson and a quartet of Conspirare singers. Experience these critically-acclaimed voices as they create a special space of beautiful vocalism, breathtaking artistry and inspirational music.

Conspirare singers Cameron Beauchamp, Dann Coakwell, Stefanie Moore, and Kathlene Ritch will perform the 2008 Pulitzer Prize-winning quartet version of David Lang’s stirring work, a rewriting of Hans Christian Andersen’s tale of a poor match girl’s death from cold. Modeled after Bach’s Saint Matthew Passion, this modern, minimalist, masterwork was first performed by Conspirare in 2010 in its choral version, and is being re-presented by popular demand. Lang’s work will be of special interest to fans of Arvo Pärt. With percussionist Thomas Burritt.

“There is no Bach in my piece and there is no Jesus — rather the suffering of the Little Match Girl has been submitted for Jesus’s, elevating (I hope) her sorrow to a higher plane.” –

—David Lang
