Are you looking for a fun challenge, music-loving friends, and exciting extracurricular opportunities? Ready to commit to a year of teamwork, learning and performing? Then Austin Girls’ Choir wants YOU!  Placement auditions for girls age 8-18 are being held by appointment weekends through Oct. 1, and incoming girls will start right away. Our Junior Choir for beginner to advanced singers age 8-14 rehearses Tuesday and Thursday evenings, and our Senior Ensemble (advanced singers age 12-18 who read music well) rehearses Sunday afternoons.

Each placement audition lasts 30 minutes. Only one person auditions at a time, and not in front of others. Each girl sings an a cappella song of her choice, and then does a skills check that includes pitch matching, tune retention, breath control, ability to sing against other parts, and level of music reading. At the end of the audition, we’ll know exactly where to start work, and will assign each girl a group within the choir. 

Austin Girls’ Choir singers past and present like to describe the group as “a musical sisterhood” — the girls develop strong friendships, and alumnae in the area remain involved and often help mentor current choristers. With 26 years of service to girls age 8-18 in the Austin metro area, this 501(c)(3) nonprofit not only delivers a great music education, but also provides a strong sense of community and terrific formative life experiences.
