ABOUT Xicano Super Heroes

Xicano Super Heroes is the AZTLAN Dance Company’s latest contemporary Xicano/Latino inspired choreography. Drawing from ancient pre-Columbian codices and contemporary 21st century comic books, the dance performance re-imagines and revises myths and legends of Las Américas in order to give rise to the barrio-based comic book characters, the AZTLAN Super Heroes.  In Volume 1: The Rise of EloteMan (Corn-Man), AZTLAN narrates time’s beginning by chronicling the intergalactic cumbia cruiser’s journey through the cosmos and arrival on Earth to seed life.  In the backdrop of this epic genesis event, the wicked underworld villains, led by their Trumpesque leader Moustachio, plot and ploy to seize life and extinguish it in order to thus claim dominion of the universe. Fueled by EloteMan’s street corner foodstuffs, the Super Heroes engage the Villains in a splendid and powerful dance for the future of earth and humanity.
