For Esmè, with Apologies for What Lies Ahead (screening)

Presented by Women and Their Work at North East corner of Colorado and 5th St

To wrap up an especially hot Texas summer, artist and filmmaker Denise Prince will be holding an open screening to premiere a series of video portraits, For Esmé, With Apologies for What Lies Ahead. Visitors to Austin, local residents, and passersby will be delighted by a splash of colorful projections depicting eccentric and traditional Austinites at the N.E. corner of Colorado and 5th Street from sunset (8:15 PM) to 1am. The scene will have an all inclusive community atmosphere with the ambience and innovation of a contemporary video installation. Everyone from little sisters to grannies are welcome to attend. In the typical fashion of many downtown Austin lots there will be food trailers and a hidden bar nearby to dip into for a cold drink.

As a Cultural leader in the Austin Arts scene and Seasoned Feminist, the inclusion and diversity of the Austin community is a constant concern of the artist and her work. The film project acts as a series of kinetic portraits of Texan women and children, romantically playing with the boundary between the reality of their circumstance and the fantasy of narrative. The subjects range from Hispanic grandmothers making corsages in east Austin, to young boys dancing ballet in the galleries of the Texas Memorial Museum.

The screening will take place in the heart of downtown at the corner of Colorado and 5th street on August 26th from 8:15pm running on loop until 1 am.

The intention of this screening is to work within the landscape of the city to create a vision of Austin as open and inclusive to all of its citizens.

This project is funded and supported in part by the Cultural Arts Division of the City of Austin Economic Development Department believing an investment in the Arts is an investment in Austin’s future. Visit Austin at NowPlayingAustin.com
