The Capital City Black Film Festival (CCBFF) is back August 25th – 28th at the Austin Convention Center.

This year’s Festival begins on Thursday evening, August 25th, with the event’s opening night celebration and feature film at the Austin Convention Center. On Friday, August 26th, and Saturday, August 27th, Festival attendees will enjoy film screenings, premieres, talkbacks with film directors and casts, panel discussions, workshops, parties, a CCBFF Vendor Pop-Up Shop and the closing night Awards Gala.

Actor, writer and producer Miguel A. Núñez Jr. (Juwanna Mann, Belle’s) makes his first appearance at CCBFF, lending his considerable talent and insight to help educate CCBFF’s filmmaker audience through panel discussions and one-on-one feedback on film and made-for-TV movie pitches.

The CCBFF special guest lineup also includes Laurens Grant, Peabody and 3-time Emmy winning filmmaker, director and producer of Stay Woke: The Black Lives Matter Movement; Candice C. Wilson, acquisitions and development director Codeblack Films; April Reign, #OscarSoWhite Creator, Managing Editor of BroadwayBlack.com and Editor-at-Large for Nu Tribe Magazine; Gil Robertson IV, Co-Founder and President of the African American Film Critics Association; Jamie Broadnax, Creator of #BlackPantherSoLIT and @BlackGirlNerds; Maurice Moore, Producer, Director, Screenwriter, and CEO and Founder of Anaik Films; Fran Harris, television personality, author, and life and business coach extraordinaire; Tynicka Battle, Founder of TBD; and filmmaker-on-the-rise Xavier Burgin, Writer and Director of On Time and Olde E, who recently landed a licensing deal with HBO.

CCBFF panels, sessions and workshops are designed inform, educate and inspire filmmakers and film lovers alike. They include:

Black (Panther) Power – A panel discussion on the current state of diversity in Hollywood and what impact Marvel’s Black Panther movie will have on how the industry perceives the domestic and international market for Black films.

The Distribution Game:  Is There An Art To Selling Your Movie? – Industry insiders discuss what filmmakers can do to give themselves the best shot at a distribution deal.

Filmmaker Spotlight: A Q&A with Xavier Burgin – Learn from this savvy indie filmmaker’s success in using social media to build his brand and fan base.

The Write Way – A free screenwriting workshop with Fran Harris for established and aspiring filmmakers.
