“GUTS,” Yuliya Lanina’s exhibit at the St. Edward’s University’s Fine Arts Gallery, Austin, comprises recent ink drawings on paper and an animation entitled “Gefilte Fish” with music composition by Sam Lipman.
Lanina’s animation and works on paper draw parallels between then and now, looking at Ukraine’s current tragedy through the lens of a second-generation WWII survivor. The works in this exhibition constitute a plea to break the pattern of silence and hurt.
“Yuliya Lanina: Guts” opens May 21 with a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. After the opening, the gallery will open 12 noon-6pm Saturdays, with Lanina in attendance, through June 11.
