Nature Nights are fun-filled explorations of plants, animals and the ecology of Central Texas. Each Nature Night features interactive presentations, hikes with experts in their fields, book signings and readings in the Store, and nature crafts for kids of all ages. Nature Nights are supported through volunteer efforts by local organizations and sponsorship from HEB.
Regular admission prices apply during the day. From 6-9 p.m., admission is free for everyone. Children 12 and younger receive a free gift at the Store during Nature Nights.
June 9, Harnessing Fire
Fire is a valuable tool used in managing wildlands. Come see the equipment and tools used for prescribed burns and wildfires with experts from the Wildflower Center, City of Austin Fire Department, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, The Nature Conservancy and Texas A & M Forestry Service. Hold on to your hats— pending wildfire emergencies elsewhere, a Travis County Star Flight helicopter will touch down at the Center!
June 16, Grow!
What do plants and animals need to grow? Discover how the life cycles of animals and plants vary and what it takes to sustain life, and learn how to grow native plants in your own backyard.
June 23, Pollinate
How many butterflies does it take to make a banana split? Come find out! Pollinators play an important role in our ecosystems by pollinating not only our native plants, but our food crops, too. Learn about all the bees, butterflies and other pollinators in the area and their impact on our modern lives.
June 30, Predators
In this Nature Night, get up close to predators of Central Texas as they fly, stalk and slither. Enjoy a presentation on birds of prey on the Play Lawn featuring live hawks and owls. Visit the live snake exhibit to learn about snakes native to Central Texas. Find out what it takes to be a herpetologist from Dr. Travis LaDuc in his special presentation about Texas snakes.

Know before you go: When there is an auditorium presentation, tickets will be given to the first 232 visitors. Tickets can be picked up at check in at the Admissions Kiosk and are first come, first served. Tickets will be taken at the Auditorium doors and you must have a ticket to be admitted. The Cafe will be open until 8:00 p.m. serving their regular menu items. Kids 12 and under receive a free gift in the Store. The parking lot fills up quickly. If the lot is full, please park on the street. Please only park in designated parking spots.
