Barton Creek Time Stream interactive website chronicles history of environmental protection efforts on iconic waterway.

In celebration Earth Day, the Living Springs documentary team launches Barton Creek Time Stream, an interactive digital scrapbook chronicling the 50+ year effortto protect Barton Creek. The project is rich with archival photos & documents, newspaper clippings and quotes from citizens of the day providing a deep dive into the history of Barton Creek, connecting common themes from the 1950s up to the present day.

The map portion of the project introduces Barton Creek enthusiasts, including artists, scientists, bikers, swimmers, climbers, hikers, and cavers, and some fascinating snippets of Barton Creek History.

A gallery of over 80 Barton Creek stewards, documents personal stories of Barton Creek protectors over the last 50 years.

In conjunction with the launch, the project will be hosting a scavenger hunt in and around Barton Creek and Barton Springs on Saturday, April 23rd for area university students. At 11:30 a.m., there will be a live demo of the project, including remarks by Council members, Ann Kitchen and Paige Ellis; parks advocate, Ted SIff; and Scott Swearingen, Ph.D., author of Austin Environmental City. The physical exhibit will be open to the public at the Beverly S. Sheffield Center at Barton Springs, at 2201 William Barton Dr, Austin, TX 78746.
