Every month, the Writers\’ League of Texas hosts a free class on the third Thursday of the month. This April, we will be hosting an event called \” Doing It Yourself: The Self-Publishing Experience.\” The path to publication looks different for everyone. In April, we want to take some time to dive into the self-publishing experience. Join us as we hear from three authors on why they chose to self-publish, why and how it’s worked for them, and more.

Our featured presenters include Dr. Courtney Davis, Jacob Grovey, and Deanna Roy.

Dr. Courtney Davis is changing the perception of inner-city children and telling a different story – one book and one block at a time. She is an educator, passionately engaged with urban communities as a practitioner and champion for students, schools and families. Her self-published books amplify relevant voices and images representing some of the youngest readers. Dr. Davis is also the founder of the East of the River Book Festival, an event that highlights authors of diverse self-published books in Washington, DC.

Jacob Grovey is a Texas-based author of twelve books, including multiple novels, collections of poetry, and several children\’s books. His love for writing started while he was in elementary school and his teacher challenged the class to create a poem. From that point, writing has remained near and dear to him. Deanna Roy is the six-time USA Today bestselling author of women\’s fiction, nonfiction, and middle grade books under four pen names. She is a regular speaker and instructor for authors who choose the self-publishing route for their books.
