La Peña presents Celeste De Luna’s solo exhibition “One Thousand Cuts”
March 1 thru March 31, 2016
Artist Reception: Saturday, March 26 at 6pm
Celeste De Luna “is a true daughter of the borderlands. Her art celebrates the quotidian and the exceptional on the border”, writes professor and artist Inés Hernández-Ávila. De Luna continues to explore the Geo-political aspects of post-911 militarization of her environment such as border walls, drones, checkpoints, and bridges. Other influences on De Luna’s work are the writing and art of Gloria Anzaldua, political graphic art, and the nature of evil. Much of De Luna’s work is centered on the border experiences of undocumented migrant women and children. Her iconography frequently features razor wire, fences, bridges, and anchor babies. Although De Luna had primarily been a painter, she has recently been challenging herself as a self-taught artist in a new medium, printmaking.
