Texas Gospel Exhibit - Now Showing Main Gallery

Presented by Texas Music Museum at Texas Music Museum

The Texas Music Museum’s 2016 Texas Gospel Spotlight exhibit celebrates artists and their music which have spiritually inspired Texans over many generations. Gospel Music became popular in the 1920’s and 1930’s, from early through contemporary Texas African -American gospel artists including multi-Grammy winners.  In addition to African-American gospel composers and vocalists, numerous Texas country musicians have also performed and recorded gospel music, and are included in the exhibit.  Also highlighted are two pioneer gospel radio announcers.  The Texas Gospel Exhibit includes photographs, biographies, recordings, phonographs and microphones from the 1930’s – 1960’s, vintage children’s organs, and full size antique church and parlor organs.

Visit the Texas Music Museum to learn about and listen to Texas Gospel artists and their inspirational music. Visitors are able to access website performances using their smartphone or tablet. The Texas Gospel exhibit will be on display at the Texas Music Museum through September, 2016.

This project is supported in part by the Cultural Arts Division of the City of Austin Economic Development Department.
