"Hemispheric Sounds" - Masterworks Series

Presented by Austin Symphony Orchestra at The Long Center: Michael and Susan Dell Hall

Never performed before by the ASO, Beethoven’s famous Emperor  Piano Concerto christens the stage at the hands of Stewart Goodyear, proclaimed “a phenomenon” by the Los Angeles Times. The concert opens with Lyric for Strings by Pulitzer Prize winner George Walker, considered one of America’s greatest composers. William Grant Still’s expressive 5th Symphony, Western Hemisphere, paints a beautiful picture as he describes it as, “when the new day dawns, the lands of the Western Hemisphere are raised from the bosom of the Atlantic.”

GEORGE WALKER – Lyric for Strings
WILLIAM GRANT STILL – Symphony No. 5, Western Hemisphere
LUDWIG VAN BEETHOVEN – Piano Concerto No. 5 in E-flat Major, Op. 73, Emperor
