Living Springs Screening

Living Springs, documentary project about the history, science, culture and spiritual practices of Barton Springs will host a free public screening featuring short videos from the on-going Barton Springs series, Thursday, March 3rd at 7 p.m. at The Belo Center for New Media Moody Auditorium, 300 West Dean Keeton, Austin Texas 78705.

The program, lasting about 45 minutes, includes the following videos from the series. A short Q and A will follow.

DEBUT: A Reflecting Pool recounts Barton from 1912-1962 through the memories of those who lived the history. The short film includes wonderful archive photos, film and original historic recreations. This piece looks into the little known social history of the Springs, including the segregation and eventual integration of the Springs in 1962.

Cleaning Day is a humorous behind-the-scenes look at the unique stewardship practices that contribute to making the Springs an amazing place for humans and endangered species alike.  Featuring the Barton Springs lifeguards and staff; and community volunteers from the Friends of Barton Springs pool.

Mr. Habitat introduces Bill Oliver, a musician who penned the defining anthem for Barton Springs, Barton Springs Eternal. Inspired by Alexander Pope’s Hope Springs Eternal from an Essay on Man, Epistle I, 1733, Oliver has adapted this phrase in an ever-evolving history of Barton Springs.
