Complete Brahms Piano Trios with Scott Yoo (violin), Bion Tsang (cello), John Novacek (piano)

Presented by Sarah and Ernest Butler School of Music at Bates Recital Hall at Sarah and Ernest Butler School of Music

Cellist Bion Tsang — Grammy-nominated musician, Austin resident and esteemed faculty member of UT Austin Butler School of Music where he holds the Joe R. & Teresa Lozano Long Chair in Cello – enthusiastically welcomes two of his favorite collaborators for a premier concert on Easter Sunday featuring pianist/composer John Novacek and violinist/conductor Scott Yoo to perform the Complete Brahms Piano Trios. The trio frequently share the stage outside of Texas, and Tsang eagerly reunites them in Austin for this concert during Yoo’s guest residency at the Butler School of Music. Grammy-nominee Novacek last performed in Austin during’s Tsang’s 10th Anniversary Concert, when they performed his jazz-inspired encores arranged for piano trio. For their Texas concert debut, Tsang selected Brahms Piano Trios, music he has studied for almost 40 years, a testament to their beauty and timelessness.

The lauded careers of these prize-winning musicians have spanned the globe for four decades. Together and independently, they have collaborated with eminent artists including Yo-Yo Ma, Joshua Bell, Emmanuel Pahud, Truls Mork, Julius Baker, and Leila Josefowicz (Novacek); Sarah Chang, Edgar Meyer, Benita Valente, and Dawn Upshaw (Yoo); and Pamela Frank, Jaime Laredo, Cho-Liang Lin, Anne Akiko Meyers, Kyoko Takezawa, Michael Tree, Yo-Yo Ma, Gary Karr and Leon Fleisher (Tsang), among many others musicians and composers. Their individual recordings include works for Sony Classical, Naxos, New World, Philips, Nonesuch, Arabesque, Warner Classics, Koch International, Universal Classics, Ambassador, Pony Canyon, Four Winds, Arkay, Virtuoso, EMI Classics and Artek.
