Spring Break and Summer Camps

Spring Break and Summer Camps

Presented by Thinkery at Thinkery

The Thinkery is excited to welcome young innovators, Pre-K-5th grade, to camp during spring break and summer 2016. Camps are designed around unique themes that inspire campers to learn through having fun. Campers use exciting science and their imaginations to explore new concepts, solve challenges and develop critical learning skills.

Our camp topics include:

Tinkering with Color and Light – See the sparks fly as we make and tinker with circuits, lights, and color. Explore how light is used in science, art, medicine, engineering and more. Ignite your curiosity by creating a world of light and color. Sign up for: March 14-18, June 27 – July 1, and July 25-29.

Once Upon A Design – Embark on a journey solving problems that occurred “once upon a time” for your favorite storybook characters.  Design engineering solutions to help them escape towers or build structures to withstand huffing and puffing wolves. Activate your imagination as we connect science, art, and technology with superheroes, potions, and your favorite fairy-tale characters. Take a step back into the world of castles, dragons and mythical creatures to help these tall-tales find their happily ever after. Sign up for: June 6-10 July 5-8, and August 1-5.

HydroExplorers- Splash into one of Austin’s greatest treasures – its rivers and lakes – and discover the powerful world of water in Central Texas. Learn how engineers harness the phenomenal power of the Colorado River by building dams. Convert a rushing river into enough energy to power an entire city. Dive deep into the Edwards Aquifer and get to know the cave-dwelling critters and unique climate of Barton Springs, and equip yourself with the knowledge to influence Texas’ water conservation efforts. Sign up for: June 13-17, July 11 – 15, and August 8-12.

Fantastic Human Machine – Discover the intricate inner workings of the human body. How does the body work? Can you build a heart? How does your nose keep dust out? From cells to senses, explore the ins and outs of the machine that is your body, and reinvent your own functioning body parts. Become aware of the tremendous work your body achieves each day as we unravel the science and art of the human body. Sign up for: June 20-24, July 18-22, and August 15-19.

Robotics and Tech Camps – What do you want the future to look like? Join the Thinkery as we explore how new technologies like littleBits, 3D modeling, and scratch programming can help us develop new products, applications, and solutions for the problems facing the world. Utilize open designspaces and creative problem solving to brainstorm, prototype, and test out your ideas.  Finally, we will build a Thinkery World’s Fair, an exposition of culture, art, and technology to display the projects you have created for your future city. Dates vary from March to August.
