RE: CONNECTING (ONLINE)

RE: CONNECTING (ONLINE)

Presented by Tapestry Dance Company at Online/Virtual Space

Tapestry Dance Company, under the direction of co-founder Acia Gray, premieres Re: Connecting, a new dance film exploring connection across space and time, through rhythm. The show will be live streamed June 3rd-5th at 7:30pm CST and June 5th-6th at 2:00pm CST.

In Re: Connecting, each of the company’s five resident dance artists present new solo works reflecting on their individual experiences in a disconnected, gray landscape and find connection in their shared language of rhythm tap. The film is woven together with a unique take on Gray’s 2010 repertory work, Poinciana. While filmed apart, these artists on screen surpass barriers of asynchronous communication with brilliant connection through the souls of their feet.

The five resident dance artists featured are Jesse Berry, Jonah Ende, Ginnifer Joe, Carlos Mejia Vergara, and Claire Sheek in tandem with Tapestry artists of the past. Themes of the work manifest from behind the scenes to the dancers’ performances on screen with a fragmented creation process defining and shaping the overall production. Since March 2020, the company artists have been displaced from their usual practices, and have adapted their workflows to new spaces, resulting in new rhythms. In this COVID-19 reality, Re: Connecting ties together Tapestry’s generations of dance artists through innovation of the dance and use of contemporary multimedia.
