Presented in collaboration with the Department of Art and Art History, Pablo Helguera, a versatile contributor to the field of socially engaged art, discusses his multifarious career as an artist, author and educator, while providing insight into the relationship between pedagogy and art with an emphasis on the embodiment of process, dialogue and human relationships.

About the Speaker

Pablo Helguera is a New York based interdisciplinary artist, author and educator with an interest in socially engaged art and performance. Helguera’s work focuses on a variety of topics ranging from history, pedagogy, sociolinguistics, ethnography, memory and the absurd, and is presented in unexpected and innovative formats, including experimental symposiums, the creation of fictional artists, phonograph recordings, exhibition audio-guides, publications and nomadic museums. Helguera has exhibited and performed extensively at venues such as the Museo de Arte Reina Sofia in Madrid, Spain; RCA London; 8th Havana Biennal; PERFORMA 05; MoMA P.S.1; Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum; and Ex-Teresa Espacio Alternativo in Mexico City and has been recipient of the Guggenheim and Franklin Furnace Fellowships and the Creative Capital and Art Matters grant. He is currently the Director of Adult and Academic Programs at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
