The Mosaic Workshop at Something Cool Studios is a regular open studio space with skilled artist instructors teaching basic mosaic making techniques and facilitating community-based public art projects and mural installations.
Lead artists J Muzacz and Carmen Rangel will host weekly workshops open-to-the-public at Something Cool Studios in the heart of East Austin. Offering free and low-cost accessible art space for community members, we provide materials, tools and instruction for basic, intermediate and advanced mosaic art making. We also facilitate community-based public art and mural design fabrication and installation.
Participants can be present in-person or log in the Zoom meeting for the free weekly presentation/discussion of mosaic art and techniques. Participants can also purchase basic supplies and make their own original mosaic artworks alongside expert instructors in the medium, free basic kit for first timers!
As the workshop progresses, there may also be opportunities to help on a public mural project to be determined. Stay tuned and check our website and follow us on social media for updates!
This project is supported in part by the Cultural Arts Division of the City of Austin Economic Development Department.
Workshop attendance is free and encouraged both in-person and online. Supplies for first timers are free, and also available for purchase starting at $15 for a basic glass pixel art mosaic kit. Take-home kits are also available. All necessary tools and instruction are included.
