Third Annual Museum Studies Symposium: Native American Cultures and Contemporary Museum Practice

Third Annual Museum Studies Symposium: Native American Cultures and Contemporary Museum Practice

at Blanton Museum of Art

Native American artifacts in museum collections are often at the center of controversy. Who really owns them? Who decides what can be exhibited? And how do museums work with Native American communities and government when artifacts are returned to the original tribes? This year’s Museum Studies Symposium brings together three distinguished scholars from the Smithsonian Institution and other organizations who are experts on the complicated issues surrounding Native American artifacts in today’s museum practice.

Presented with fellow sponsors The UT Humanities Institute and UT Museum Studies.
