Austin, TX – Helen Merino will star as Sherlock Holmes in Austin Shakespeare’s live, online theatrical reading of the play by William Gillette and Sir Arthur Conan for one night only 5 p.m. Dec. 6, 2020. Tickets are $10 and the production is co-sponsored by the mystery writer collaborative, Sisters in Crime, Heart of Texas Chapter.

Incriminating letters written by a young European prince to the English girl he betrayed are in the hands of the dead girl’s sister, who is in the clutches of a nefarious man. In addition to Merino as Sherlock Holmes, the production will star Ev Lunning, Jr. as Prof Moriarty and Corinna Browning as Dr. Watson.

Cast directed by Artistic Director Ann Ciccolella: Helyn Rain Messenger as Sherlock’s love interest; Rachel Wolff as the dark lady; Bennie Braswell as the French maid; and Ev Lunning Jr, Derek Webster, Joe Kelley, Chuck Winkler, Ethan Santo, Matthew Graham Wagner in multiple roles.  Virtual backgrounds by Lowell Bartholomee.  The audience is invited to a conversation with the actors and director immediately following the reading.

The theatrical reading is part of Austin Shakespeare’s ongoing efforts to collaborate with other organizations in the Central Texas area. “We are honored to have the support of such a smart, active group with national as well as Central Texas reach,” Ciccolella said.
