MetaCartography #3 {an iterative mindmapping installation}

MetaCartography #3 {an iterative mindmapping installation}

Presented by dystheatre and The Institution Theater at The Institution Theater

Dearest Participants in Happiness is a Choice!

Our next public experiment will be Saturday, February 13th from 6pm to 1am at The Institution Theater, interrupted briefly by the purest form of improvised brainstorming entertainment, TARANTULA – Dynamic Improv from 10pm-11pm.

Happiness is a Choice Experiment #22.3 is a media-making co-laboratory / co-gallery space. It is a presentation of dystheatre’s VAIL: Visible and Invisible Light, the third iteration of our mind-mapping installation calibration, and our first public call for art.

Give us your sounds! There will be LISTENING and VIEWING stations at which we will be screening several works-in-progress. The theme is AUDIO if you need a theme. But it’s a loose theme. Bring your polished, half-edited, freshly recorded audio! Or share it with us beforehand and we’ll share it with our practitioners! We’ll get feedback if you want! We love to get feedback. Surveys = SCIENCE.

Practitioner Mi will also be holding an open discussion regarding HIAC’s FULL SYSTEMS ANALYSIS of SYSTEMS, Media Asset Management, and progress tracking on M.A.P.P.IN.G.S. For more information on MAPPINGS, listen to podcast #1 of MEM from January 8, 2016.

BETA-TESTING A NEW SCIENTIFIC TOOL
This project is supported in part by the Cultural Arts Division of the City of Austin Economic Development Department.

We attempted to calibrate this map for the first time on September 12th, 2015, and then again on October 10th of that year. We believe that it will take at least 10 iterations to find an authentic degree of accuracy at this installation.

This is STILL a beta test, I repeat, this is only a beta test. A work in progress. The third of many steps to create an interactive and immersive installation that will allow one to journey through one’s own timeline and those of humankind and the cosmos, make hypotheses about the connections between events, fiddle with variables, run tests, analyze data, determine meanings, mess with video, hear audio, feed Jeff a banana in Istanbul, and chart your own metapsychocartographical adventures in science. Feedback along the way is always appreciated. Help us help science help us to help you help science!

EXTENDED STATEMENT

Meta-Cartography is a new medium through which we believe it will be possible to experience infinity and the loss of self, to lucidly transfer memories and meanings amongst members of the human species based on any finite period of time and space.

The current working hypothesis for those following along (technically what follows is just some very technical next actions) is that a Comprehensive Media Database (C.M.D.) integrated into a Complete Synchronized Asset Database (C.S.A.D.) is what’s needed to create a FULLY functional, templatized, and socially relevant MetaCartographical Instrument.

That is in fact an eventual hopeful conclusion for the many iterations of Experiment #22: a comprehensive and synchronized asset database to keep track of all the elements we’re working with (video, audio, images, writing, memories). Once we’ve got those databases running, we should be able to plug ’em into an extra-dimensional environment and get immersed. This will all likely be the majority of the work of iterations 22.5-22.x, but at this point, that’s only a hypothesis about a hypothesis.

Yes, at this point, the C.M.D. has taken a bit of a backseat to a hypothesis about the process of developing the process. This new meta-hypothesis is that in order to achieve maximum satisfaction, whatever we’re working on, we should do it in a healthy, moderately paced and balanced, positive way. This is the true hypothesis of Experiment 22.3, which is why it is also a party.
